A Spanish research group from the Electronic Department of
Alcalá University is developing an electronic system for monitoring the
operational state of a lift and transmitting this information via the Internet
to a central computer. Since these components form a communications network with
a central computer, the software could manage the information from whole network
and predict the maintenance of each lift. They are looking for credit licensees,
manufacturing and joint venture partners.
The Internet-based state monitoring system of a network of lifts as it has been
developed consists of an electronic system installed in each lift, a
communications network and a central computer. The system captures and processes
the analogue and digital information representing the lift operation and can act
on some of its elements for ordered tests to be carried out from the central
computer.
The main system inputs are temperature gauges located at various points of the
lift machinery, electricity consumption when starting and stopping, etc. The
transmission signals of this module allow the machinery to be reset and acted
upon by remote control. Each electronic system monitors the operation of one
lift, processing the information coming from the sensors, calculating the lift's
operation time, detecting alarm situations and, if necessary, initiating
communication with the central computer to indicate any incidences. It also
manages the communications process in TCP/IP (transmission control
protocol/Internet protocol) format and detects when the central computer is
needed to report on sundry parameters indicative of the lift's operation.
The system is monitored from a personal computer with an Internet connection,
which communicates with several lifts. The software in this computer allows for
TCP/IP communications and also manages the connections and the operation of
several lifts.
Main Advantages: It is a low-cost system based on tried-and-tested technology, which oversees
the operation of a network of lifts by managing a database that is continually
and automatically being updated from the data sent in from each lift.
This system cuts down the fault attention time and can even pre-empt them. It
will also be possible to optimise the performance of a human maintenance team,
by programming the repairs they carry out.
Innovative Aspects : - Functional association of an
electronic card for capturing and processing sensor information from the lift
and establishing the Internet communication with a central computer.
- Real-time information on lift faults is given and the behaviour of the
machinery is analysed on an ongoing basis.
- Tests can be carried out on the lift by means of commands generated by an
operator at the central computer.
- The checks on a network of lifts can be timetabled in terms of their operation
characteristics.
